About

We help restore New Zealand’s most incredible spaces and species to their former glory with generosity, partnerships and mahi so all New Zealanders can be inspired, enriched and united by our natural home.

NEXT Foundation is a philanthropic foundation seeking to transform New Zealand’s greatest natural asset – its environment. NEXT was one of the first pioneers of strategic philanthropy in New Zealand when it launched in 2014, applying robust business practices to giving.

NEXT was created through the generosity of a highly successful couple, Neal and Annette Plowman, who embrace the philosophy of giving while living. They donated $100m to be spent in NEXT’s first 10 years and have now committed a further $150m to be spent in the next 10 years, commencing in 2025.

NEXT founders Neal and Annette Plowman embrace the philosophy of giving while living.

How we work

We invest in transformational projects with multi-year commitments and large aspirational goals.

We collaborate with communities, central and local government, iwi, business, and other philanthropists.

We support inspirational leaders, offering projects financial and non-financial assistance, and helping with the hard work of delivering results.

Toitū te marae a Tāne,
toitū te marae a Tangaroa,
toitū te iwi.

If the land is well and
the sea is well, the people
will thrive.
